Elizabeth Kahura will host an African drum an dance program at the Warmack Library Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. The informative and lively program is for the young and young-at-heart.
Kahura, a storyteller, singer, and educator, first arrived in U.S. in 1995. “Growing up in a traditional African village, I learned everyone has a specific role to fill in order to make the community successful,” she says.
“Applying this knowledge to my performances, I share the importance of cultural values, how they influence our identities, and the interdependence of the individuals with the community,” the Kenyan native said. “Concepts like the power to dream, character development, and self-empowerment come to life.”
The Warmack Library is located at 760 Bardin Rd. For more information, visitwww.gptx.org/library or call 972-237-5770.
